Nanofiltration (NF) membranes have a pore size of more than 1 nm, generally 1-2 nm. They are functional semipermeable membranes that allow solvent molecules, certain low-molecular-weight solutes, or low-valent ions to pass through. They are a special and promising type of separation membrane, named because they can intercept substances with a size of approximately nanometers.

Advantages of Industrial Nanofiltration Membranes
  • 01
Low-energy operation:Compared with RO technology, NF membranes operate at lower pressure (3.5-30 bar), reducing energy consumption by 40-60%, which is especially suitable for large-scale water treatme...
  • 02
Efficient filtration:The pore size of NF membranes is about 1nm, which has a high rejection rate (up to more than 80%) for divalent and higher-valent ions and organic matter with a molecular weight gr...
  • 03
Selective control of ion removal:NF membranes adopt innovative desalination technology, which can achieve selective control in ion removal. The removal rate of calcium ions can be controlled at 60%-80...

High removal rate of small-molecular organics:The pore size of NF membranes is about 2nm, with a molecular weight cut-off of 200-500 Daltons, which can effectively remove small-molecular organics in w...
FAQs of Industrial Nanofiltration Membranes

FAQs of Industrial Nanofiltration Membranes

  • Q
    What is a NF membrane?
    A

Nanofiltration (NF) membranes have a pore size of more than 1nm, generally 1-2 nm. They are functional semipermeable membranes that allow solvent molecules, certain low-molecular-weight solutes, or low-valent ions to pass through. They are a special and promising type of separation membrane, named because they can intercept substances with a size of approximately nanometers.

  • Q
Why use NF instead of RO?
    A

Nanofiltration (NF)  can achieve true selective filtration (it can effectively remove most pollutants and retain essential mineral ions beneficial to human bones and teeth, such as Ca²⁺ and F⁻). Reverse osmosis (RO) is a non-selective filtration (all beneficial and harmful minerals are removed).

  • Q
Is there a cost advantage compared with RO?
    A

Currently, NF membranes on the market are 30-100% more expensive than RO membranes. We have been working hard to control costs to make hollow fiber NF membranes acceptable to consumers. We have an integrated production line from upstream raw materials to membrane modules, which enables us to better control costs and provide cost-effective products.

  • Q
Can NF remove all harmful substances?
    A

According to current data, NF membranes demonstrate high efficiency in removing the most critical harmful substances in water, including heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, pigments, antibiotics, hormones, and more.
